Surf Discovery, Portugal, Stas Sushenkov… One can teach surfing, but one can teach surfing just the way Stas does it! Thank you so much for your patience, your warm-heartedness, your cordiality and understanding. And just for turning out to be a great person who made me feel at home in this distant land. I am so very, very, very happy that now Surf Discovery is in Portugal and it has the same level as it is in Bali. Stas, THANK YOU!!!
All the praises for Stas have been sung, but I would like to decipher why I “criticize” him so much! 🙂
So…

Surfing:
- Individual approach to every learner;
- “Blamestorming” that includes photo session that helps analyze and correct the mistakes;
- “Academic” part (ebbs and flows; spot peculiarities in Peniche and Baleal; checking weather forecasts on Windguru and other sites; spot conduct culture (traffic and localism exist in Baleal) and much, much more;
- Psychological support in the ocean (cannot say for everyone, but for me personally it’s a very important factor);
- The choice of the spot that is the best for certain weather conditions (during two weeks I spent there I experienced a windy swell as well as baby-waves);
Not surfing::
One-day historical itinerary that was taking its shape just along the way;
- Visit to Fatum surfboards factory (that includes the detailed description of surfboards characteristics and the specifics of their production);
- Nazare (a legendary spot where Garrett McNamara broke the world record for largest wave ever surfed) and visit to a local restaurant;
- Visiting Supertubos (the spot that will host The Rip Curl Pro in October);
- Sunset in Peniche sitting right on the cliffs and the surprise gifts 🙂 (really unexpected and very nice, thank you, Stas!!!!!)
- Dinner at Ferrel, a local restaurant that serves sooooooo delicious food and soooooo cheap;
- Unforgettable walk under the night sky – it was great fun and really informative because I know for sure now where the Pole Star is;
- Game club :-)))))
- And of course – dancing in Bar de Praia.
I described only one day, that ran smoothly into the night, in life of Portuguese Surf Discovery.
And the fact that Stas is an excellent chef is so widely-known that it is even not worth being mentioned! Along with the fact that you can synchronize your watch with Stas – if he said that we would meet at 9am at the station, be sure – he will be at the station and at 9am (and it is something really extraordinary in Portugal)! And how we were all rolling on the floor laughing when Stas was imitating Lolita Milyavskaya in one of our games. What can I say…
See you soon! In Baleal, in Surf Discovery, next summer!
